I am in my 50s and have been an Exercise Physiologist for 22 years. This is my second career. Prior to being an Exercise Phys I was a Psychiatric counselor and therapist for 9 years.
I went to college at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY and attended Graduate Schools at The New School for Social Research in Manhattan, Fordham University in the Bronx, NY and Long Island University in Dobbs Ferry, NY achieving my Masters in Science in 1995 from LIU as well as the Universities Distinguished Alumni Award in 1997.
I am a Gray Institute Educator serving as teaching faculty at the Gray Institute for 7 years.
I have an amazing 21-year-old son, whom I absolutely delight in who is in his senior year at Providence College. He holds half of my heart.
I am married to the girl of my dreams, a beautiful English girl. On August 8th we will celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary. She is my rock and my breath. She is what makes all of this world ‘make sense’. There is no ‘me’ without her. She holds the other half of my heart.
We live in New Rochelle, NY (about 18 miles NE of New York City) where I own Body By Design, Inc., located in Mamaroneck NY. I have lived in the same 5-mile radius in New Rochelle my whole life. It is my home. I love what I do (helping and serving others) and am serious when I state that, because of my love of my ‘work’ I never ‘work’ a day in my life. My occupation: Aspiring Beam of Light.
I think of my work life not as separate from my spiritual life but as central to my spiritual life. My work is my ministry.
Spending time with my family. They are so loving. I am truly blessed.
The New York Yankees, The NY Giants, sports in general.
People. I find people to be fascinating, interesting and continually stimulating. Why we do what we do, what drives us, who and what we love, what our beliefs are, There is so much there beyond what we see on the outside.
Applied Functional Science (AFS). AFS is the convergence of sciences that allows for purposeful movement. The convergence of Physical Sciences (the world we life in), Biological Sciences (the miracle of the human body), and Behavioral Sciences (the power of the mind and spirit) is the DNA of AFS. I am a total AFS nerd. It has transformed my life. The knowledge, the people, the thought process, the sense of giving and serving. It’s truly amazing.
Currently reading many books. I tend to do that. Among them are: A Course In Miracles by Alan Cohen; There Is A Spiritual Solution To Every Problem by Wayne Dyer; Living Buddha Living Christ by Thich Nhat Hanh; The 4 Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz; Silence: The Power of Quiet in a World Full of Noise by Thich Nhat Hanh; Discover the Power Within You: A Guide to the Unexplored Depths Within by Eric Butterworth; Vaster Than Sky, Greater Than Space: What You Are Before You Became by Mooji; You Are the Universe: Discovering Your Cosmic Self and Why It Matters by Deepak Chopra, and Menas Kafatos Ph.D.
My morning routine: up by 7 or 7:30 to be quiet and place myself in a grateful heart space. By 8:30, gently kiss my wife awake and spend some morning time talking with her and sharing in her light.
Spending some time ‘unlearning’.
To learn more about the heart. If you know what changes a heart, you know what changes a world.
My Hope for You
To allow for new possibilities beyond that which you currently believe.
To know that you do not need to prove your worth to anyone, you just need to know it.
That you will be gentle with yourself. That you might consider going beyond the ideas of succeeding and failing, for these are judgements, but rather please stay in the process and allow the Universe to handle the details. Don’t worry about achieving. Don’t worry about perfection. Just be there each moment as best you can.
That you trade your fear for curiosity.
That, instead of thinking outside of the box, you will just get rid of the box.
You will experiment with what you learn.
You will be patient with yourself.
You will be patient with me.
You will be vulnerable and brave.
You will have the ultimate learning and growing experience.
You will laugh. A lot.
That you will hold yourself to a standard of grace, not perfection.
That you won’t leave before the miracle happens.
