Healing the Hurt: Hips

Updated: Apr 25, 2021

The body and the mind are not separate. They work together to protect you from harm, which is truly amazing! And for that reason, we need to treat them together, not separately.

Dr. Candace Pert is a neuroscientist who has studied the unique connection between the brain and body. She explains it like this,

“Your body is your subconscious mind. Our physical body can be changed by the emotions we experience. The emotional memory is stored in many places in the body, not just or even primarily, in the brain.

I think unexpressed emotions are literally lodged in the body. The real true emotions that need to be expressed are in the body, trying to move up and be expressed and thereby integrated, made whole, and healed.”

Hip pain, stiffness, and ailments can be triggered by misalignment, dislocation, or physical trauma and, they can also be your body's plea for emotional release.

"Hips are the center of movement, they also symbolize your ability to let go of the past and enter into new areas," states Deb Shapiro, Well Being Author of Your Body Speaks Your Mind.

Stiffness or pain in the hips can indicate that the challenge of change is causing a desire to hold on to how things have been until eventually, you become immobile. Questions to ask if you have hip discomfort or pain:

Does it feel like the ground is no longer sustain you?

Is something making you concerned or scared?

Are you due for retirement or feeling fearful about how you will find a purpose to life without work?

Are you concerned about how you will be able to manage financially?

When we feel off balance, unable to move forward through a painful life aspect, and stuck in life, our hips might respond with aches and stiffness. Can you see the symbolism?

Injuries must be physically addressed, but in order to truly heal overall, we need to acknowledge the role of our emotional construct. The emotional meaning behind an injury might provide insight into the root of what ails you. At Body By Design we recognize that all healing is Mind, Body and Spirit.
